The whole point of foreign object detection strategy is to be sure that there is nothing on board an aircraft that should not be there. This is an obvious problem with hand tools both in the original build and in maintenance operations during the aircraft’s operational life.

The Replicade Tool Control System provides tools in such a way that at the end of a procedure all of the tools can be effectively checked where they should be, i.e., in the toolbox. It also provides for full traceability of the tools should they become separated from their “home” kit.

Technicians can indent for a complete tool kit with a single tool check, the particular kit being designed for the task at hand. All of the kits are stored in a mobile stillage which is easily transported into the working area.

The kit contains an inert plastic laminated foam, resistant to chemical attack, in which is formed three-dimensional cutouts which precisely fit the tools in the kit. The upper surface of the laminate is black, the lower signal yellow. To audit the contents of a kit only requires the draws to be opened — as long as no yellow is visible, all the tools are present.

Each kit has a unique number and all the products in the kit are permanently marked with this kit number ensuring complete traceability.
